An FDA committee says prescription topical steroids aren't safe enough for OTC use.

Some manufacturers are requesting a switch to OTC for some topical steroids. But an FDA review shows that the more potent steroids can cause adrenal suppression.

Suppressing the adrenal glands can lead to Cushing's syndrome...upper body weight gain...high blood pressure...skin changes. Acute adrenal insufficiency can even be fatal.
