Fine-Tune Meds in Hospice or Palliative Care Patients
End-of-life care brings up unique med issues.
Pain. To limit volume of high opioid doses, prescribe concentrated oral solutions...such as 20 mg/mL morphine or oxycodone.
Double-check concentrations and calculations to prevent errors...especially underdosing.
If swallowing is a problem, use oral opioid solutions buccally or sublingually...or consider a fentanyl patch.
