proposing higher intakes of calcium and vitamin D

The government is proposing higher intakes of calcium and vitamin D...to reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

They recommend 1000 mg/day of elemental calcium for adults...1200 mg/day for people over age 50.

This works out to be about four servings a day of milk, yogurt, cheese, etc. Most adults don't consume this much...many will need to use supplements to fill the gap.
