The Federal Trade Commission will allow pharmacists to join together in networks to provide pharmaceutical care SERVICES...for patients with diabetes, asthma, etc.
Pharmacists can't join together to set prices on drugs. That violates antitrust laws.
But the new ruling is an important first step for pharmacists to provide services. It's one thing for an individual pharmacy or chain to provide these services. But it will really get off the ground when a whole network of pharmacies can approach payers with a program that includes many locations.
