Some physicians are now prescribing low doses of gabapentin (Neurontin) for muscle cramps.
Ever since the FDA said not to use quinine for leg cramps, people have been searching for a good alternative.
Many other drugs have been tried...verapamil, vitamin E, phenytoin, carbamazepine, and methocarbamol. But so far, there's not enough evidence that these drugs are effective for leg cramps.
