Now that Claritin is going off patent, Schering is coming out with Clarinex.

Clarinex contains desloratadine...it's the major active metabolite of Claritin (loratadine).

This continues the recent trend in which companies use a close cousin of a big drug to gain a new patent life...Nexium (esomeprazole) for Prilosec...Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) for Ritalin.
