Experts are now debating whether cholesterol needs to go even lower than previously thought for some patients.

Current guidelines recommend an LDL < 100 mg/dL for patients with heart disease or diabetes.

This target will probably be lowered to 70 mg/dL... especially for patients with unstable heart disease. In fact, some experts now say "go as low as you can go" in these patients.
