There's concern about a potentially fatal interaction between colchicine and some macrolides.

Erythromycin and clarithromycin (Biaxin) can INCREASE colchicine levels by inhibiting CYP3A4...and also P-glycoprotein.

CYP3A4 metabolizes colchicine to inactive metabolites.
