Emsam (selegiline) will be the first PATCH for depression.
It will be used as an alternative to oral MAO inhibitors... in patients who don't respond to other antidepressants.
Oral selegiline is selective for MAO-B at the low dose used for Parkinson's...but it's nonselective at higher doses needed for depression.
