Embeda (im-BED-a) is a new pain med designed to limit abuse.
The capsules contain extended-release pellets of the "opioid" morphine with an inner core of an opioid-blocker called naltrexone.
Swallowing the capsules whole slowly releases the morphine...and only trace amounts of naltrexone. But if the pellets are crushed, all the naltrexone is released and can block morphine's effects.
