The recent shortage of injectable B12 (cyanocobalamin) is bringing up questions about dispensing vitamin B12 supplements.

Injectable vitamin B12 has been the "go-to" drug for years in patients with B12 deficiencies or certain types of blood disorders.

Select the right needle for injectable vit B12 orders. These are intramuscular injections...so a 1" needle is needed to reach the muscle. Pick a shorter 5/8" needle for very thin adults...and avoid tuberculin (TB) needles since they're not long enough to reach the muscle.
