You'll get more prescriptions for OTCs so they can be paid for with health savings accounts (HSAs).
Beginning this year, HSAs and flexible spending arrangements (FSAs) require prescriptions for ALL OTC meds except insulin.
OTCs are sometimes less expensive than Rx medications. For example, some patients can use OTC omeprazole instead of Nexium...or loratadine instead of Clarinex. See our PL Detail-Document for examples of OTC alternatives to Lovaza, Niaspan, and other Rx meds.
