Alzheimer's medications (Aricept, Namenda, etc) are usually not very beneficial.

Lots of Alzheimer's patients are started on Aricept (donepezil) or other "cholinesterase inhibitors" (Exelon, Razadyne, etc) in hopes of improving memory and functioning.

In some cases, Namenda (memantine) is added on when symptoms worsen. The thought is to combat Alzheimer's from two different angles.
