Many patients don't realize how much sodium is in some effervescent tablets...Airborne, Alka-Seltzer, Binosto, etc.

Sodium bicarbonate is often added to create the fizz...but it adds lots of sodium. For example, Alka-Seltzer Original has 567 mg of sodium per tablet...Airborne 230 mg per tablet...and Binosto (alendronate) 650 mg per tablet.

Too much sodium can increase blood pressure. Most people should limit their sodium intake to 2400 mg or less per day.
