Apply a "Do Not Crush or Chew" Label to Potassium Citrate Rxs

We're getting questions about ways to avoid errors with Rxs for potassium CITRATE (Urocit-K, etc).

Double-check you're dispensing the right potassium salt form. Using the wrong one can mean patients won't be treated for the right condition. For example, using potassium chloride instead of citrate can LEAD to kidney stone formation...instead of preventing them.

Watch out for meds that look and sound alike. Urocit can easily be confused with Uloric or Uceris...since they all start with a "U"...have six letters...and have an "I" and "C" in their name.
