Help Prevent Rabies After an Animal Bite or Bat Exposure

Questions about rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) are starting to bite...due to a recent CDC alert about rising human rabies exposures.

Rabies is almost always fatal...but PEP prevents it when given promptly and correctly after an exposure, before symptoms start.

Expect your pharmacist to refer anyone with a possible exposure to the ED or urgent care right away. These clinicians will need to work with the health department to assess whether PEP is needed.
