You'll see increasing efforts to eliminate dangerous abbreviations from prescriptions.

Starting in January, JCAHO will no longer allow certain abbreviations in chart orders, progress notes, etc.

These abbreviations include: U...IU...QD...QOD...trailing zeros on doses...lack of a leading zero for doses less than 1...and the drug abbreviations MS, MSO4, and MgSO4.
