Running out of medication or refills may be more than a matter of inconvenience for some patients.

Many meds cause withdrawal or rebound if stopped all at once.

For example, abruptly stopping some blood pressure meds such as beta-blockers (metoprolol, atenolol, etc) or clonidine can cause blood pressure to shoot up.
