Amitiza (lubiprostone) will come in a new lower strength for treating some types of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
IBS symptoms include stomach pain, cramping, bloating, or bowel changes. Amitiza is helpful for IBS with constipation.
It's the only drug approved for this condition now that Zelnorm (tegaserod) is restricted to emergency use only.
