It's okay to give IV calcium and ceftriaxone (Rocephin) immediately after one another in most hospitalized patients.

The FDA originally warned NOT to give IV ceftriaxone and calcium solutions within 48 hours of each other for ANY patient.

Several babies died when these were given...due to calcium and ceftriaxone forming a salt crystal in their lungs and kidneys. But this seems to only be a problem in babies who are 28 days or younger.
