whether it's okay to take certain once-daily diabetes meds (metformin ER, Lantus, etc) twice daily
We're getting questions about whether it's okay to take certain once-daily diabetes meds (metformin ER, Lantus, etc) twice daily.
Extended-release metformin. Metformin is well known for causing diarrhea and nausea. These side effects are more common with immediate-release versions of metformin...but can still be a problem with extended-release products (Glucophage XR, etc).
Feel comfortable dispensing extended-release metformin Rxs dosed twice daily. In many cases, this is done to improve tolerability.
