Tramadol (Ultram, Ultracet, etc) will be a Schedule IV controlled substance at the federal level starting August 18, 2014.
This isn't a big surprise. Tramadol is a weak opioid...and has similar potential for abuse as propoxyphene (Darvocet, etc).
In fact, tramadol is already controlled in some states...including New York, Massachusetts, Georgia, and Illinois.
