Dispensing insulin syringes and pen needles often causes confusion.

Needle length. The goal is for insulin needles to reach the "fatty" subcutaneous layer under the skin...but not to go as deep as the muscle.

Don't be surprised to see some patients asking for "shorter" needles. PEN needles as short as 4 mm are still long enough to reach the subcutaneous tissue...regardless of weight, age, etc.
