There's lots of interest in using SSRIs for alcoholism.

Preliminary research suggests SSRIs can help reduce alcohol consumption. SSRIs don't completely stop drinking...but they tend to reduce the number of drinks and the frequency of binge drinking.

There's some evidence that alcoholics have problems with serotonin or serotonin receptors. SSRIs may help correct this.
