Merck will promote their new 80 mg Zocor (simvastatin) tablet as an alternative to Lipitor (atorvastatin).

Zocor 80 mg lowers LDL about 47%...and reduces triglyceridesabout 36%. It's approx equivalent to using Lipitor 40 mg.

Keep in mind that increasing the dose of Zocor also increasesthe risk of muscle inflammation or liver toxicity.
