For the first time, research suggests that statins reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
A new analysis shows a 30% lower risk of diabetes in patients taking pravastatin to prevent heart disease. This comes from the huge West of Scotland Coronary Prevention Study (WOSCOPS).
Researchers speculate that statins might help prevent insulin resistance by lowering triglycerides...improving endothelial function...and lowering levels of cytokines and other inflammatory proteins.
