Avapro and Cozaar are now the first drugs APPROVED for treating kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
For years clinicians used ACE inhibitors for these patients. But no ACE inhibitor is actually APPROVED for this use.
Avapro (irbesartan) and Cozaar (losartan) slow progression of kidney disease...similar to ACE inhibitors. Other angiotensin receptor blockers probably work too.
