Valtrex is the first antiviral approved for ONE-DAY dosing in patients with cold sores.
One-day dosing with Valtrex (valacyclovir) works about as well as 4 to 5 day dosing with other choices...oral Zovirax (acyclovir)...or the topical creams Abreva (docosanol) and Denavir (penciclovir).
They all reduce the duration of cold sores by about a day.
