More cardiologists will monitor C-reactive protein (CRP) levels.

A "high-sensitivity" (hs-CRP) test is used to detect subtle increases in inflammation that are associated with heart disease.

New evidence suggests that lowering hs-CRP below 2 mg/L with statins in patients with acute coronary syndrome reduces the risk of recurrent stroke or heart attack, regardless of their LDL levels.
