There's confusion about which oral doxycycline product to dispense...due to the different ingredients, dosage forms, and uses.
Ingredients. Avoid mix-ups with the different doxycycline forms...doxycycline hyclate and doxycycline monohydrate. For example, Periostat is doxycycline HYCLate...and Adoxa is doxycycline MONOHYDRate.
Alert the pharmacist to Rxs written just as "doxycycline." All doxycycline forms are dosed once to twice daily...plus the hyclate and monohydrate forms both come in 50 mg and 100 mg capsules.
