We're getting questions about which TOPICAL meds should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Most topicals are usually okay and don't pose risks to unborn or nursing babies. For example, vaginal clotrimazole isn't linked to birth defects or problems in breastfed babies. The same goes for benzoyl peroxide and OTC hydrocortisone 1%.
But there are exceptions. For example, retinoids (Tazorac, tretinoin, etc) have been linked to fetal malformations in animals...and could possibly cause birth defects in human babies.
