Hycamtin (Hy-CAM-tin, topotecan) for ovarian cancer

SmithKline Beecham is introducing Hycamtin (Hy-CAM-tin, topotecan) for ovarian cancer.
Hycamtin is the first in a new class called camptothecins...or topoisomerase I inhibitors. Blocking this enzyme leads to DNA damage when cells replicate.
Hycamtin will be used as second-line therapy for advanced ovarian cancer...usually after treatment with cisplatin or Taxol.
