There's lots of interest in Xalatan (ZAL-a-ten, latanoprost), a unique eye drop for glaucoma. It'll be out later this summer...from Pharmacia & Upjohn.
Latanoprost is the first topical prostaglandin for glaucoma. It works at least as well as timolol to reduce intraocular pressure.
Timolol and other beta-blockers reduce pressure by slowing the production of aqueous humor in the eye. Latanoprost works by increasing the drainage of fluid from the eye.
