The FDA just approved Levaquin (levofloxacin) for treating penicillin-resistant pneumococcal pneumonia.

This is the first antibiotic to be approved for this use.

Strep pneumoniae is the most common cause of community-acquired pneumonia. It used to be very sensitive to penicillin...but now resistance is growing.
