The American Academy of Pediatrics is now urging more widespread use of varicella vaccine (Varivax).

They recommend ROUTINE immunization of healthy children at 12 months...but fewer than half of them are being vaccinated.

They also recommend vaccinating susceptible children AFTER EXPOSURE to chickenpox...to prevent or attenuate the infection.
