Drug reps and ads are painting a rosy picture of how Pristiq compares to venlafaxine (Effexor XR, etc).
Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is similar to venlafaxine. In fact, the body converts venlafaxine to desvenlafaxine after it is swallowed.
It was hoped that Pristiq would work as well as venlafaxine and be better tolerated...but this hasn't panned out.
