The new generic Zyprexa, olanzapine, is hitting pharmacy shelves

The new generic Zyprexa, olanzapine, is hitting pharmacy shelves.

More money is spent on "atypical" antipsychotics than any other drug class. So having a new generic is exciting. Zyprexa is the second of the pricey atypical antipsychotics to go generic. Risperdal (risperidone) was the first to go generic years ago.

Watch out for patients with no insurance. Generic olanzapine will be cheaper than brand Zyprexa...but the big price breaks won't happen until more manufacturers enter the market in May 2012.
