There'll be more debate about the pros and cons of using "gliptins" (Januvia, Nesina, Onglyza, etc) for diabetes.

Add generic availability to the pro side for some patients. Alogliptin is now the first generic in this class...and costs about half as much as brand-name gliptins.

But mark safety issues as a con. That's because some gliptins have been under fire for concerns of an increased risk of heart failure in certain patients.
