You'll hear more about treating abnormal cholesterol levels with NON-statins...ezetimibe, niacin, fibrates, etc.

Statins (atorvastatin, etc) are used first-line to treat high cholesterol and decrease the risk of heart disease.

But some patients can't tolerate a statin...or don't get enough cholesterol-lowering from their statin alone.
