Certain patients drink a cola along with their Sporanox (itraconazole) or Nizoral (ketoconazole)
Janssen now recommends that certain patients drink a cola along with their Sporanox (itraconazole) or Nizoral (ketoconazole).
This is for patients who don't produce enough stomach acid...usually elderly or AIDS patients...or patients taking acid-suppressing drugs such as ranitidine (Zantac) or omeprazole (Prilosec).
Colas improve absorption by increasing stomach acidity. There's no word yet on whether orange juice or other acidic beverages would work.
