changing the generic name "amrinone" to "inamrinone"
May 2000
USP is changing the generic name "amrinone" to "inamrinone."
This is due to mix-ups between "amrinone" and "amiodarone" (Cordarone). The names of these cardiac drugs look and sound alike.
Confusion has led to serious injuries and even deaths.
