diabetes type 1.5
You might hear a new term, "diabetes type 1.5"...more accurately known as "latent autoimmune diabetes in adults."
Some experts now use this term to describe patients who have similarities to both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
In type 1, the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin... and patients need insulin injections. It's often caused by an autoimmune disorder in which antibodies attack pancreatic beta cells.
