Oncologists will soon be using Ethyol (amifostine)...to reduce cumulative renal toxicity in patients getting cisplatin.

This will be a big drug in hospitals.

Ethyol is thought to work by scavenging free radicals and other cytotoxic compounds. It seems to protect against kidney toxicity without decreasing the effect of cisplatin on tumor cells.
