The National Kidney Foundation is urging the FDA to require a prescription for MIXED analgesics...products that contain BOTH aspirin and acetaminophen such as Excedrin, Vanquish, etc.
Chronic use of mixed analgesics can lead to kidney failure...because they have additive toxic effects on the kidneys.
Several European countries have already withdrawn these types of combination products from the OTC market and now report much lower rates of analgesic-induced kidney disease.
